Out to Lunch Testimony

My family and I recently went out to lunch on a Saturday afternoon and encountered a waitress who seemed to be very happy with her job and overflowing with joy. There were 7 of us, and I could tell by the way she talked to us, served us, and went out of her way with kindness that there was something different about this lady.

As the meal went on, she continued to bring us things, and every time she’d stop to just talk. Finally, right before it looked like we were wrapping things up and getting ready to leave, I guess she felt like it was the “right time” to share. She told us how she and her baby flat lined on the table as she was giving birth twenty-six years ago, and by God’s grace, she’s alive today. She had to re-learn how to walk and talk again, and take care of a newborn and 2 toddlers, and she did it. But all the while, she was giving glory to God as she was telling this story. I was proud of her boldness, as she didn’t know us and didn’t know if we were believers or not, and with the ridicule some get with sharing a testimony like this, I thought how great it was that she was there sharing. We then told her we were believers, too and thanked God with her that she was alive today. I then shared with my mom that I could tell as soon as we got to the restaurant that there was something different about her. It was a kinship of sorts that is hard to describe, but I felt it and I recognized it in her right away.

As we were walking to the door, she caught up to my mom and I and hugged us and I told her how proud I was of her to be sharing her faith and her testimony with others, and when I said “Please continue doing that!”, she was more than quick to say “Oh, trust me girl, I will!”.

Psalm 71:17 NLT – “Oh God, You have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things You do”.

Colossians 1:28a NLT – “So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us.”

We didn’t get her name – we were too busy enjoying having her around during our meal (she was a talker!), but I will never forget what she shared with us, and her kind, loving, bold spirit for Christ. I look forward to seeing her again – if not again at this restaurant – then surely in Heaven.

Psalm 107:2 NLT – Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others He has redeemed you from your enemies.”

About Dena:
“First and foremost, I’m a Daughter of the King and a long-time Christ follower. I’m also a dog mom who enjoys reading Christian books, cardio drumming, traveling often, and I’m a bit of a techie geek. My life has seen its fair share of curve-balls and I’ve found that I’ve become closer to Christ in each trial as He’s comforted me and shown me that I can solely put my faith and trust in Him. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT says “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” I feel thankful and blessed for the messes in my life – as they have brought me closer to Him.”
