Setting Standards

When we don’t set standards in our lives, it can become easy to conform to the ways of this world.  If we don’t seek our direction from God, Satan has a way of slithering in and telling us that it’s okay to “think like that,” it’s okay to “live like that,” it’s okay to “keep doing the things you’re doing,” only it’s not.  Romans 12:12 -“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  We follow certain standards in our work places, we follow standards when we’re driving on the freeway, “or we should anyway.”  There’s rules that we follow to live in peace with others.  Having set standards to live by sets boundaries.  It let’s others know where we stand.  What we say, and the way we act tells people who we are and what we believe.  Colossians 4:6 – “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” God teaches us “right and wrong” in His Word.  He set standards for us to live by.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” By living our lives in a way that is pleasing to God, we’re following a God driven  standard.  We’re teaching others stability in Christ, not conformity to worldly standards of living.

Matthew 7:13 ESV
Enter by the narrow gate.  For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

2 Peter 2:21 ESV
For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness then after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.

Proverbs 16:25 ESV
There is a way that seems right to a man, but it’s end is the way to death.
