I have always been a huge hi-fi buff. My mother taught me about it when I was a kid, and she would take me to stores to listen to music in ordinary low end equipment. Then, she took me to the high end where the sound became addictive. Regular sound over the years would become to my ears, ordinary. Then, I would get home to my surround sound system with high-end speakers, and become in a state of euphoric bliss.

My heart gets tired sometimes. Discouraged. Sometimes I just feel like I continue to pray for something and it’s just not happening. It’s not that I don’t believe that God will come through, or that God won’t provide – it’s not that at all. I know His promises are true and I know He wants to give me His best. I even know His best is coming, and I don’t doubt that for a second. I just think I get impatient as I wait, which makes me question sometimes if what I’m praying for is maybe the wrong thing.

What if we are faced with difficult individuals? How are we supposed to act? What if it’s someone we work with? What if it’s someone we love? What are we supposed to do and say when someone we care about confronts us with opposing views about our Christian belief? What if they oppose our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? I have Rick Warren’s “The Purpose Driven Life” book, and it’s been sitting on an end table in my living room for over a year. Every time I start to read it, I’m reminded that it’s recommended you read a small bit each day. Well, things tend to happen where there’s a day I can’t get to it, and then it falls by the wayside. When I read a book, I typically like to read it cover to cover as quickly as possible. I don’t like to read for 10 minutes and then set it down for a day and do it again the next – it’s just not my recommended way to read.

Some days it can be tough to get out of bed. It feels so nice and cozy and warm under those covers. But alas, the day is calling. God is calling us to the front lines to do the work that He has put us here to do. We are His and He’s created us to further His kingdom. Ephesians 2:10- “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God works in our lives and does wonderful, amazing things. Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away. But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.
But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 2 Corinthians 3:12-16

When we don’t set standards in our lives, it can become easy to conform to the ways of this world. If we don’t seek our direction from God, Satan has a way of slithering in and telling us that it’s okay to “think like that,” it’s okay to “live like that,” it’s okay to “keep doing the things you’re doing,” only it’s not.
