Application over Education

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:22-25
I love reading the word. I love how it takes me places mentally I wouldn’t have gone before, and when it challenges a thought I had, it makes me shift my momentum. I love it when I must rewrite a devotion because when I actually read God’s word, I come up with a different

On My Own

Many times we think we have all the answers. We don’t need someone else’s input because we think we know better. Often times mistakes happen when we shut others out and we don’t seek the advice we need. Going through life is tough enough without isolating from everyone. We all need people to lean on, especially in times of crisis. We need others to help cheer us up when we’re down. When times are rough, we need people to lift us up, to give us support, to say they love us. I think I can safely say that a lot of us have bad days. We may be whiny

The Greatest Wingman

One of the criminals hanging beside Him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while You’re at it!”
But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this Man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43
The wingman. One of my favorite movies was ‘Top Gun,’ which is a movie about fighter planes. In the movie, there is a reference to the expression called ‘the wingman.’ The role of

Sidetracked

May '19

When we stop and think about it, there are so many distractions in life that sidetrack us from spending time with God. We have news and entertainment right at our fingertips. We become obsessed with our favorite television shows to the point of them invading our minds throughout the day. We stay up late and then drag ourselves into work because we can’t miss the latest episodes. There’s all kinds of activities we get caught up in. We can start out with good intentions trying to stay focused on God, but then life’s distractions take over. We start finding that we have little or no time to spend just being alone with our Savior. So many

Peace Amidst the Chaos

May '19

Having peace is surely more important than trying to understand why something happened the way it did – but if you’re someone like me, you tend to take everything that happened (or is happening) to you and try to understand it. “ Why did that happen”? “How did that happen”? “What could’ve been done differently to make a different outcome”? Eeeeek! God doesn’t desire for us to figure things out on our own. That’s not our job. We’re supposed to trust and

Imperfectly Perfect Circumstances

Apr '19

I’ve had a quote on my wall at home for over a year now that says: “Don’t Let What You See Make You Forget What I Said. – God”.
I think many times we look at our current circumstances and forget God’s promises. We wonder how we’re going to get from where we are now to where we want to be. Or we think that God just doesn’t care because things aren’t happening in our lives like we want. Or something that looks to be just out of reach, isn’t coming into reach like we want it to. I see a pattern here. WANT WANT WANT. What does God WANT

Daily Bread (Bible Study Kickoff)

Apr '19

When I go to church on Sunday morning, I look forward to spending time with my bible study group and also with the rest of my church family. I learn from the bible studies that we do and I learn from the weekly sermons. A lot of study and preparation goes into the teaching that we receive. I feel very blessed to have wonderful teachers and leaders that put in all of that hard work to teach us what God wants us to know. We have weekly bulletins to help guide us and to take notes. We can even do it on our church app right on our cell phone, which is very convenient. We carry our phones right in our back pocket anyway, where we can

My Best Friend (EASTER)

When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know

Breaking Down Walls (EASTER)

Working around construction and watching walls being torn down and new things being built in their place is exciting. It’s interesting when you think about it. Walls that have been there for so many years, all of a sudden come crashing down. Breaking down walls may seem like a daunting task to accomplish, but with the right leaders in charge and the proper tools being used, it becomes a success. A new day is dawning, getting rid of what doesn’t work anymore

Christ’s Sacrifice for my Sins (EASTER)

Oh man… can’t we find ourselves in some predicaments in life sometimes?? When fumbles in life happen, when things I do go completely against what God is teaching me in the Bible, it just feels horrible, but admittedly, sometimes I’ll still make those fumbles. Sometimes without meaning to, other times, I screw up completely and fully aware that I’m screwing up. Embarrassing to admit, but it happens. I think how in the world God can still love me after
