Craving God’s Word

There was a time when I would get up and go, start the day with routine stuff and not even think twice about God, or what He was doing in my life. So often life gets away from us and we forget about His presence in our lives. Raising kids, taking care of our families, working, all these things keep us busy. Time goes by so fast and before we know it, it seems like we’re ten years older than we were yesterday. As I get older, I crave God’s Word more and more. I can’t start my day without Him. I have seen so much how the Read more…

The New Year’s Resolution

Oh, the dreaded New Year’s resolution. We start to set impossible, unattainable goals for ourselves. We have dreams of achieving things with good intentions in mind, with no real sure plan of action. Then of course we fall short. We go in full force on January 1st. By February 1st, we’re done. Eating right, losing weight, exercising, these seem to be the most popular resolutions that we fail with. We put expectations on ourselves and when we don’t see immediate results, we quit. We want things easy, we want instant Read more…

Jesus Wept

Have you ever wondered what’s the shortest verse in the KJV Bible? Maybe not, but it’s right there in John. While it may be the shortest verse, the impact is monumental.

“Jesus wept”. – (John 11:35 KJV)

How comforting is it to know that Jesus actually weeps? Not that we desire for Jesus to cry.  My point is – Jesus weeps with me. Jesus weeps with you. Jesus; God in the flesh wept! How comforting to know that Read more…

Sweet Sounds of Christmas

As Christmas grows closer, the laughter and excitement grows. Anticipating special times with family and friends. Making new memories. Enjoying the parades. The sights and sounds of Christmas. I enjoy listening to all of the Christmas music. I love all of the traditional Christmas songs that I grew up listening to. I love all of the recent songs from the past few years. There are so many different Christmas shows on television. It’s hard to get the opportunity through the work week, but on my days off, I have to watch at least one or maybe two Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel (or one of the other channels). I prefer the light- Read more…

More Than Just a Title

By:  Brian Keel

Being a Christian is more than just using the name as a title. Christian literally means “Follower of Christ”. Using the title of Christian bears a greater responsibility than what some people put as a priority in their hearts. People look to us as a representative of Christ on earth when we tell them we are a Christian. When Read more…

I’ve Got You!

Don’t worry, I’ve got you! We tend to forget that when things are hectic, but God holds us close. He doesn’t want us to worry about things. So, why do we? I trust God, I have faith in God. I know that He’s in control. So, what gives? Satan is very present in our world, he definitely tries to get the upper hand on us, especially when we feel a little under pressure. Read more…

More Than Enough

If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever. Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. 2 Corinthians 3:9-12 Read more…

Don’t Quit

Whatever it is that you find joy in doing, if it’s healthy and benefits you, or someone else, don’t quit. Whatever talent or skill you have at your disposal, use it. Sometimes we think we have nothing to offer. Actually, we all have something to offer that can benefit someone else. If you think you don’t, then you probably haven’t searched hard enough, or you may feel like what you have to offer doesn’t matter. IT MATTERS!! We’re all in constant learning mode, if we just pay attention. What comes so easy to one person Read more…

Strength Through Adversity

By:  Brian Keel

After some “gentle persuasion,” you know, the kind used on stubborn mules, I was guided to start being a guest blogger for the time being. I’m not sure where exactly to start, but here I am.

Many of you have seen posts of mine on the Oakwood Church Family Facebook page. Those posts have been pulled down, not for content, but for the angle at which everything was approached. Sometimes in life we all wish we could just erase parts of the past and continue to be who we are. Unfortunately, if we did that, we wouldn’t be the person we have become today. It is Read more…

Changing Our Questions

“When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”  “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where You are going, so how can we know the way?”  Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me. If you had really known Me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him!” John 14:3-7

Do you ever question God? There are times that I pray for things that do not come, and then I will ask why. Why didn’t a check come through the mail? Why didn’t my plan for work go well? Why is my computer still malfunctioning? These were all thoughts in my mind as things did not Read more…
